Lots of organisations say that Health and Safety is a top priority for them, but we really mean it, and we put our money where our mouth is too.

For example, we invested nearly £1m in 2015 to give every branch a new piece of mechanical handling equipment that removes the need for our colleagues in the yard to lift single kerb stones and slabs.

 Our approach to Health and Safety is quite different to others – we really do involve our people in helping decide what things we do and how we should do them. The new mechanical handling equipment came from a suggestion made by a colleague who works in the yard at our Birtley branch.
