Guest Blog: Revolutionising Transportation for a Greener Tomorrow
Wavin are continually looking for ways to enhance their commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
As a leading manufacturer, Wavin recognise the importance of decarbonising transportation to reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to a cleaner, greener future. Wavin are proud to introduce a new and innovative solution working closely with Keyline that not only enhances efficiency but also significantly lowers environmental impact.
AquaCell NG Attenuation Tanks: Revolutionising Logistics
Wavin’s new AquaCell NG attenuation tanks are not just innovative in their design but also in their transportation. These stackable tanks enable four times more product to be loaded into each lorry, resulting in a 75% reduction in the number of lorries on the road. This not only improves operational efficiency but also minimises the environmental impact associated with transportation.
Road to Rail Sustainable Transport Solutions with XPO Logistics
The product innovations of AquaCell NG are not the only sustainable transport solutions that Wavin have been a part of in recent years. In May '22, Wavin embarked on a partnership with XPO Logistics and Malcolm Logistics Rail division at the Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal (DIRFT). The primary focus was on six daily Scottish radial delivery routes, trunked to Glasgow from Chippenham using 12 LGV vehicles. The objective was clear – design a solution that reduces the need for LGV vehicles, consequently lowering diesel emissions and overall environmental impact.
The Success of the Rail Project
Diesel/electric freight trains now complete the daily route from DIRFT to Mossend rail port in Bellshill, Scotland. Wavin says, "This strategic shift has resulted in a 58% reduction in annual CO2 emissions, as rail transportation produces only 25% of the carbon emitted by Large Goods Vehicles. Additionally, the initiative removes 1,500 trucks from the roads annually, enhancing road safety and contributing to improved air quality by eliminating 18.8 tonnes of NOx per year."
Innovation and Collaboration for a Sustainable Future
Wavin’s commitment to sustainability doesn't stop here. Following successful loading trials and engagement with Keyline the first load was delivered to Keyline, Salkeld Street, Glasgow, on September 13th, 2022. Looking ahead, Wavin plans to take further steps by introducing bespoke build Wavin branded rail swap bodies and expanding this eco-friendly solution to Doncaster radial routes.
Wavin believes in leading by example and pioneering initiatives that make a positive impact on the environment. Their purpose is to advance life around the world and together with their partners, they are shaping a more sustainable future.
