We are proud of our safety record, but we know we cannot stand still and must look for ways to continually improve and be innovative in both our thinking and the way we do things.
New Mechanical Handling Equipment
Manual handling is a problem in our industry, and we know it can affect the wellbeing of our colleagues. We believe that our legacy should be a reduction in the amount of lifting and carrying our people do at work by at least 75%. Simply training people how to lift and carry things safely, whilst necessary, is not going to help us achieve this challenging objective.
We decided that we need to do things in a radically different way. To that end we have invested nearly £1m to provide each of our branches with a new forklift truck grab that dramatically reduces, if not removes, the need for our colleagues to lift our heavy ‘grey’ products.
Reducing Blind Spots
We know that, for obvious reasons, lorries pose an increased risk to pedestrians, cyclists and other road users. As part of our commitment to helping improve work related road safety, we are piloting the use of a new HGV cab that dramatically reduces the driver’s blind spots so that they can have better visibility of people and objects around their vehicle.
