Frequently Asked For Information

Here you will find all the relevant information you need on our approach to health and safety management. If you are looking for information to complete a pre-tender question we are members of two Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSiP), this means that our Health and Safety arrangements have been independently reviewed and deemed to meet all legal requirements.

If you are a member of one of these schemes, or recognise them for assurance purposes hopefully this will save time in completing the any supplier related questionnaires.

Further information on SSiP is available at: http://www.ssip.org.uk

Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work

All of our work activities that pose a significant Health and Safety risk have been assessed. We follow the hierarchy of risk control principles when dealing with them. Examples of our risk assessment are shown here.

A key risk area of our work at customer sites is the off loading of goods. In most cases a HiAB (also known as a vehicle mounted crane) will be used. All of our drivers who use such pieces of equipment hold the relevant qualifications and will follow our lift plan, a copy of which can be found here

All our colleagues receive a safety induction when they first join us, this outlines the key aspects of safe working. We then continue to build on this throughout their careers with us.

Training requirements are noted in our risk assessments and our training matrix. Copies of which are available upon request.

We do not recognise any Trade Unions for consultation purposes. That said we have three different levels of Health and Safety Consultation:

  • Level 1 - Branch Quarterly Safety Meetings: chaired by our Branch Managers for their branch, quarterly
  • Level 2 - Regional Safety Forums: chaired by our Regional Directors for their Region, quarterly
  • Level 3 - National Safety Forum: chaired by our Managing Director, quarterly
